【Photo Diary】 (2) Visit to Geneva for the 76th World Health Assembly
Published on June 30, 2023
I would like to share with you some of the photographs taken during my visit to Geneva, Switzerland, from May 21 to 28, 2023, to attend the 76h World Health Assembly-the WHO’s decision-making body-in my capacity as chairman of The Nippon Foundation and WHO Goodwill Ambassador for Leprosy Elimination.

We discussed the possibility of holding a National Hansen’s Disease (Leprosy) Summit in Brazil, hopefully in the presence of the president, at the end of this year. The summit was scheduled to take place in March 2020 under former President Jair Bolsonaro, but was called off due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Acknowledging that Brazil has the second largest number of cases of Hansen’s disease after India, Minister Trindade said her ministry is committed to making Brazil free of the disease, with the National Health Council working closely with a number of organizations, including the Movement for the Reintegration of People Affected by Hansen’s Disease (Morhan), in promoting early diagnosis and early treatment as well as primary health care services.
