Statement on Ateneo de Manila University Shooting

As Chairman of The Nippon Foundation I would like to express my condemnation of the shooting at Ateneo de Manila University in the Philippines on the afternoon of 24 July, and to express my heartfelt condolences to those who lost their loved ones.

We have worked for many years with the Ateneo, building the Asian Peacebuilders Scholarship project, and so the incident strikes us particularly hard. The physical and mental impact on the students of the law school, who were about to graduate, is immeasurable and unforgivable.

My thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and all people concerned.

アテネオ大学銃撃事件に関する日本財団声明文

日本財団は、7月24日午後、フィリピンにあるアテネオデマニラ大学にて発生した銃撃事件に対し、強く非難し、愛する人々を失った犠牲者のご家族に、心からの哀悼の意を表します。

平和構築のための奨学金事業を共に作り上げてきた同大学にて、このような事件が発生したこと、また、この度卒業式を控えていた法科大学院の学生たち、関係者の皆様への心身への影響は計り知れず、決して許されることではありません。

私達は、犠牲者の方々、その家族の方々、関係者の皆様といつも共にあり、祈りを捧げたいと思います。
