I would like to share with you some of the photographs taken during my visit to India between November 3 and 10, 2022, as chairman of The Nippon Foundation and WHO Goodwill Ambassador for Leprosy Elimination.

At the HITEX Convention Centre in Hyderabad, where the 21st International Leprosy Congress 2022 was held under the theme of “Better Knowledge. Early Diagnosis. Improved Care.” The three-day congress was a hybrid event with both physical and virtual sessions.
With Dr. Lutz Hegemann, president of Global Health & Sustainability at Novartis, the Swiss-based global healthcare company that donates multidrug therapy medicines to the WHO to treat leprosy.

In a keynote address at the 21st International Leprosy Congress 2022, I noted that leprosy programs have faced disruption in many countries due to the COVID-19 pandemic, adding: “But normal routines are resuming. Now is the time to draw on the difficult experience of the last three years, and intensify our efforts toward zero leprosy, based on the WHO’s Global Leprosy Strategy.”
