【Photo Diary】 (4) Visit to Geneva for the 76th World Health Assembly

Published on July 20, 2023

I would like to share with you some of the photographs taken during my visit to Geneva, Switzerland, from May 21 to 28, 2023, to attend the 76h World Health Assembly-the WHO’s decision-making body-in my capacity as chairman of The Nippon Foundation and WHO Goodwill Ambassador for Leprosy Elimination.

[May 26, Geneva, Switzerland]

With Mr. Volker Türk, the new United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, who assumed the post in October 2022.
He agreed to pose for a photograph next to a banner reading "Don't Forget Leprosy," a campaign that I initiated in 2021 to ensure that the disease is not overlooked even amid the coronavirus pandemic. Mr. Türk supported my commitment as WHO Goodwill Ambassador for Leprosy Elimination to deal with Hansen’s disease not only as a medical issue but also as human rights issue.

Speaking at the 39th WHO Sasakawa Health Prize award ceremony.
The prize was established by my late father, Ryoichi Sasakawa, in 1984 to recognize individuals and organizations engaging in innovative efforts to improve people’s health and, at the same time, establishing greater equity in health through the promotion of primary health care.

The 2023 WHO Sasakawa Health Prize award ceremony was held at the historic Palais des Nations, which houses the United Nations Office at Geneva.
