【Photo Diary】 (2) Visit to Nepal for National Leprosy Conference
Published on June 2, 2025
I would like to share with you some of the photographs taken during my visit to Nepal from May 7 to 9, 2025, in my capacity as chairman of The Nippon Foundation and WHO Goodwill Ambassador for Leprosy Elimination.
[May 9, Kathmandu, Nepal]
Speaking at the closing session of the Nepal Leprosy Conference 2025, I called upon all the participants and stakeholders to work with the Health and Population Ministry in devising and implementing a national strategy to attain the goal of a leprosy-free Nepal by 2030.
I also stated that I would fully support the idea of holding a second National Leprosy Conference in Nepal in three years' time.
At a dinner hosted by the Nepal Law Association (NLA) for my delegation.
I asked the NLA to strive for the abolition of the country’s nearly 30 laws that discriminate against people affected by leprosy, with a view to opening the way for a Nepal free of the disease and the stigma and discrimination associated with it.
Later in the evening, I left Kathmandu for my next destination, Yangon, Myanmar, via Bangkok.
