【Photo Diary】 (3) Visit to Tunisia and Ethiopia

Published on September 8, 2022

I would like to share with you some of the photographs taken during my visit to Tunisia and Ethiopia between August 25 and September 4, 2022.

[August 30, Addis Ababa and Hosaena, Ethiopia]

A vast landscape unfolded as we began a seven-hour drive from Addis Ababa, the Ethiopian capital, to Hosaena in the south of the country.

I saw quite a few donkeys, which play an important role in transporting goods.

Meeting with people involved in a project undertaken by The Sasakawa Africa Association (SAA) in Hosaena. Over more than 35 years, SAA has worked in 15 African countries with the financial support of The Nippon Foundation to improve the livelihood of millions of smallholder farmers across the continent struggling to avoid the poverty trap.

These children cheerfully raised their hands when I asked them whether they help their parents farming.

With smiling farmers.

Ms. Tefesech (center) with her two sons; the boys have just taken over farming from their father.

Listening to this lady’s explanation on how they process grain.

Joining local people dancing to welcome me.

Being given an enormous plate of Difo Dabo, a traditional Ethiopian bread.
